This Blog is Against Cyber Censorship

Today (March 12), “Reporters Without Borders” are celebrating the World Day Against Cyber Censorship.

Maybe we cannot relate with the subject in Lebanon since this virtual side of this messed up country is still free (so far) but it doesn’t mean we’re off the hook. If they’re not doing anything about what’s being said in our blogesphere, it doesn’t mean they don’t want to, they just don’t know how…yet!

I mean we’ve seen some of their “intentions” when they tried to shut down the TV show “LOL” because of  some “inappropriate” jokes!

To see what we might be facing in the future, nothing is more clear and frightening than the list of the bloggers at Threatned Voices who have been threatened, arrested or killed because of their words online!

What anti-censorship means to me? Freedom! Our most basic right as human beings! We need to be free to express our feelings, thoughts and opinions with no fear of anyone! Censorship by other parties usually ends up with self-censorship, you’ll end up imprisoning yourself if they don’t do it themselves! Which is more dangerous to me..

How companies and governments should act in regard to this censorship? Not by only allowing others to talk freely online, but by making sure they have the means to do so. In Lebanon, they can start by offering a decent internet and telecommunications infrastructure..

    IE allergic to acid

Another attempt to make the IE user -hopefully not for long- switch to Firefox (version 3 is amazing!). So, let’s not talk about long lists of differences and features. We have a test, called the acid test..Click here to see what it should look like when it loads(the reference). And click here to test your browser.

Ofcourse, Firefox3 passes the test beautifully (download it from here). IE6 and IE7 totally fail…ofcourse!! The Microsoft developpers said that their baby IE8 passed the acid2 test but later..they said that it didn’t pass and they even wrote why…..no comment.

This may not seem a big deal to the users (it’s huge to web developpers). I mean it’s just a test after all and not the end of the world. But again, would you use a browser that messes up that cute smiley face the way IE does?? ;) :P

    n!

My boss sent almost the whole staff today an email with the subject “funny”. He wrote that he asked one of the interviewees he had to write a simple recursive function to calculate the factorial of an integer (n!) using any programming language he likes. And that person replied with “Can I use Assembly language?”. Boss said if that person can do it then he’s hired :) :)

    What do you think?!

    Go Forward: to depression!

    مين قال مافي شغل!!

بدك شغل أو حابب تغيّر شغل؟
    خود فرصتك بالLeiB

    1000’s of jobs await you!

Leading companies offer 1000’s of jobs for all levels and in different fields.

Prominent Universities and Colleges present 100’s of majors for all degrees and in different specializations.

Sounds nice no?! I went there and I noticed that:
    • -They want experience. Minimum 4 years!
    • -On the poster they write: IT officer. I go ask about the job description they say: “Oracle”!
    • -They want makeup artists more than IT administrators and Programmers!
    • -The only company I found wanting a Java developer was in Qatar and I don’t want to leave here!
    • -I had fun though in the cafeteria with the guys and I got this yellow pages book called “Zawarib Beirut”; it’s like a detailed map of zawarib Beirut.

    MEN!!

Why do guys find it so hard to accept that it’s normal to find a girl who can sign up for the MCSE track??! -which is silly by the way according to the first session!

Why do guys find it weird to see a girl that can code and hack?!?! -I saw a blog post talking about this too but I lost it!

Why can’t some of the guys I know just accept that I can kick their asses when it comes to programming?! -call me a show off but I really can!

It’s really frustrating to realize that no matter how hard I try, I would be still looked at as a girl who cares about nothing but her hair and fashion. -My hair now looks amazing by the way :P

    I hate mobile phones…-Updated

,I never liked them and at the same time I couldn’t live without one in the past 4 years, especially when I moved to Lebanon alone.

Why do I hate them?! Simply because they are to me nothing but jerk magnets ( if you feel the same join e-nadaha’s group: Jerk Magnets). let me show you some examples:

Jerk#1: One day, I receive a message from a number I don’t know “hi loulou, how are you, I’m Karim Almenshawy”. Who’s Karim?! I had no idea. After a week or two of trying to call the jerk or to know anything about him, he called ” I got your number from a guy named Osama…….you don’t want me to call?!…..Ok, bye”. Many months later, I knew that he’s actually a Mohammad and a new classmate I know!

Jerk#2: Another one day, the phone rings, an international number..
    -hello?X?
    -no wrong number!
-I like your voice, Can I know your name?!
    -*hangs up*
For two or three days, the jerk kept calling…the last phone call lasted 30 minutes, I didn’t say a word during these minutes, just pressed the answer button and he did the talking…he called me Heba by the way (he likes the name he said)

Jerk#3: I don’t know if anyone read the post “Jerks” that I deleted it. A guy calling himself the phantom of the Opera…he turned out to be my cousin’s cousin having fun.

Jerk #4: A new one, couple of days ago, a number missed call couple of times…I sent a message (stupid me) asking for the caller’s identity…”I’m fadi”, “fadi meen?”, “fadi masa2at”…here we go again!!! he claimed that he saw me once in AlBekaa’ but he didn’t have the courage to speak to me (never been there)…it ended by me asking him to fuck off, and he did!

Jerk #5,6..etc: A list of many numbers(from Lebanon and Egypt) that I don’t know them till now, miss calling every once and a while, sending messages sometimes, …you will find their numbers saved and named Who1, who2, who3…etc in my phonebook (the max once reached who11).

Conclusion: mobile phones are disgusting and so are some men!

Update: this jerk #4(fadi masa2at) is back…he’s sending messages telling me that I’m LUCKY he has my number and I should be grateful for that!!!!!!!!!!

    snow on your desktop

I’m just testing this Googlepages thing, and I love it..similar to Yahoo’s Geocities but much better (at least to me). And so far, this is my googlepage!
I added this “art of the day” gadget and it got me this random(and pretty) painting (which means: don’t ask me about it because it’s the first time I see it).
Ok back to the topic..snow on your desktop, download this (uploaded to my googlepages site), run it(don’t worry I know it’s an .exe file but it’s safe wallah) and you’ll have snow on your desktop.

    Screenshot

Note: I forgot my phone in the university’s bus…called the driver and he’ll get it tomorrow..have no idea how it’s related to the topic but I’m mad at me!!!! and please if you are one of the few people who know my number AND(&&, ^) actually read my blog..please don’t bother the guy and send me stuff or call :D
